Rickards Secures $165,000 Auto Settlement

The large automobile injury settlement occurred after three years of litigation.

The Law Office of Jordan B. Rickards has secured a $165,000 settlement, stemming from an automobile accident which occurred in December, 2013. The defendant driver had been drinking heavily in the twenty hours leading up to the accident, and had not slept during that time, before impacting another vehicle at high speed, injuring her passengers. The Law Office of Jordan B. Rickards hired a toxicologist to extrapolate the driver’s blood alcohol content at the time of the accident, as well as the effects that twenty hours of sleep deprivation would have on such a driver, and an accident re-constructionist opined on the approximate speed of the negligently driven vehicle at the time of impact. The matter took nearly three years to litigate, involved five expert reports, four separate depositions, several motions, and thousands of pages of discovery.

While the defendant insurance company refused to settle initially, negotiations resumed after the Law Office of Jordan B. Rickards prevailed in two critical pre-trial motions (in which the trial court allowed for the introduction of punitive damages and removed injury threshold protection from the defendant insurance company),  and after several weeks of talks between the parties a $165,000 settlement was ultimately reached.
